Keep the beat. Find the words.
A real beat-first writing example in Cadence: the instrumental, a four-line lyric, an A–B loop and a saved take in the same song.
Walkthrough transcript
- Import the instrumental. Choose the original audio file through Files and load it as the song’s beat. The example uses an original 88 BPM instrumental made for this demonstration, so it is not evidence that a third-party beat is cleared for release.
- Keep the lyric with the beat. The four-line draft below stays in After the Last Bus. Rhyme colours highlight related sounds; they do not decide whether a line is meaningful.
- Make a short loop. Set A at the beginning and B near ten seconds, then play the selection. Keep trying the line against that same passage rather than restarting the whole instrumental.
- Capture a take. Start recording while the loop plays and stop to save a take with the song. The simulator capture shows the recording state; the take was verified saved in the app; no vocal performance or microphone-quality comparison is supplied here.
Last bus gone, but I still know the way
Rain on the glass puts a pause in the day
I had a whole speech; I let half of it go
Left room for the thought that I wanted to show
Original demonstration lyric. “Way/day” and “go/show” provide simple end-rhyme anchors. Try leaving a breath before the last word, then compare a second take with fewer words.
From takes to a demo
Draft Demo and DAW require Cadence Pro. The session above reached the upgrade screen; no purchase was made and no finished export from After the Last Bus is claimed. For a separately captured real arrangement example, see Springtime Showers: arrangement, studio controls and verified stem export. A continuous recording now shows its assigned sections being built into the DAW and six aligned WAV stems exported, with fresh file checks. It is a different song, not the outcome of the recording above.
For your own song, choose the takes that carry the idea, arrange their order, and listen away from the editor. Read the lyric-to-demo guide for decisions to make at each stage.
