Track songwriting activity in the workspace you use
Cadence’s Usage view combines a creative-activity calendar with library totals. It helps answer practical questions: how often did I return to writing, which days did I work in the DAW, and what did a session involve?
The calendar summarises creative time, sessions and active days. Open a day to inspect writing and DAW time, characters added or removed and recorded actions such as recordings or exports. App-open time is shown separately; leaving an app open is not the same as writing.
These controls follow the current Cadence app source, checked 23 October 2026. Availability and menu placement depend on your installed version. If a named control is missing, check for an update or contact support.
Find your writing statistics
- Open Settings from the Library and choose Usage. Find a setting can also locate the activity calendar.
- Choose a month and review the calendar. Open a day for its writing, DAW and activity detail.
- Compare your activity with the sessions you intended to do. Notice which days or session lengths were easier to repeat.
- Use Settings → Writing routine to choose reminder days and a time that fits your week.
- Use Pause tracking if you want to stop collecting new activity. Clear history removes recorded activity; it is not a way to reset your song quality or creative ability.
See the Usage walkthrough. This activity view is separate from the current lyric’s word, line and syllable counts.
A weekly review that leads to another song
Choose a small, repeatable commitment: two short writing sessions and one listening pass. After a week, look at the days you actually worked. If a session was missed, adjust the time or make the starting task smaller.
- Pick one unfinished idea before the next session begins.
- Define the next action: write four lines, record a chorus take or revise one transition.
- At the end, leave a note describing what you will do next.
A calendar can reveal a pattern. It cannot judge the value of a lyric, and a low character count may represent careful revision. Use the statistics to support your routine rather than chase a score.
Turn a regular session into a concrete workflow
Try the freestyle practice exercises when you want a short warm-up, the song-structure guide when the draft needs a shape, or an offline listening pass when you need distance from the edit.
Common questions
Where can I see my writing frequency in Cadence?
Open Settings → Usage to see the activity calendar, creative time, sessions and active days. Open a day for writing and DAW details.
Does the tracker measure the quality of my songwriting?
No. Time, sessions and editing activity describe your routine, not the quality of the music. Revision can involve removing words or listening before making a small change.
Can I pause activity tracking?
Yes. The Usage view provides Pause tracking and Clear history controls. Writing-routine reminders are configured separately in Settings.
